VP of Food Quality and Safety

Our vision for the VP of Food Quality and Safety is to establish a premier consumer brand uncompromisingly focused on quality and safety. The successful candidate will assist in positioning BrightFarms as an industry leader in food safety by creating an industry leading food safety program for CEA (Controlled Environment Agriculture). A successful candidate will also need to create and drive all quality related initiatives including, but not limited to: quality systems, product quality programs, quality assurance programs, and continuous improvement programs to raise our quality performance and capabilities. You Will:

  • Build food safety program from ground up and serve as the company‚Äôs leader and expert in all quality assurance and food safety matters
  • Establish and conduct regular as well as unannounced audits and tests at the greenhouses. Report on audits and tests, take corrective actions where necessary, recommend improvements and ensure their implementation
  • Develop and lead the food recall and crisis management processes.
  • Develop processes, tools and reports to measure and track food safety and quality related metrics
  • Closely monitor and evaluate new developments, anticipated changes, and innovative methods. Proactively recommend how we should prepare and respond
  • Champion best practices in quality and provide guidance to ensure we excel on these matters
  • Work directly Operations, Marketing and other departments to develop, implement and improve quality, safety and compliance programs and procedures
  • Maintain a high level of expertise on all food safety and quality related subjects, including regulations, legislation, and trends in the US and abroad
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with industry peers, food safety and produce organizations and relevant regulatory agencies, serving as a highly-regarded counterpart on all safety, quality and regulatory matters
  • Educate and coach team and colleagues on quality, safety and compliance matters

Your Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience managing Food Safety or Quality in a retail, distribution or production environment with at least five of those years managing a team
  • Master’s degree in food science, engineering microbiology, public health, or related field
  • Subject matter expert on food safety, QA and audit regulations, trends, tools and programs specific to produce is a plus
  • Specific knowledge and direct experience in ensuring adherence with FDA and USDA regulations
  • High level of business acumen
  • HACCP, SQF and/or related food safety training
  • Excellent quantitative/analytical skills. Six Sigma credentials, Black Belt a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally and lead/influence others, including third parties in the supply chain
  • Function in a fast-paced start-up environment


  • This position is based in the Irvington, NY office with some travel required.
